This special screening of Resistance (2020), starring Jessie Eisenberg, launches a new series of talks and film screenings for 2026, supported by our National Lottery Heritage Fund Archive project. Held to mark National Holocaust Memorial Day in Harwich, the event offers space to reflect on courage, persecution and resistance during the Second World War.

Before the film, Professor Sanja Bahun will introduce the history of the Holocaust, focusing on the experiences of children, followed by a short talk from two of our Archive Project staff. Drawing on their research into local newspapers and cinema listings, they will explore what wartime life and cinema looked like locally, connecting global history with local experience.

Resistance is the story of mime Marcel Marceau as he works with a group of Jewish boy scouts and the French Resistance to save the lives of ten thousand orphans during World War II.
