Eyes in the sky to keep Dovercourt safe

New CCTV cameras are being installed in Dovercourt town centre to make the town centre a safer place.

Money has also been allocated to pay for two new CCTV cameras to be installed in the area through the High Street Accelerator Programme.

It is hoped the cameras, which will be operated and monitored 24 hours a day, will act as a deterrent to potential fly tippers, vandals and assailants while also providing evidence to the police if laws are broken.

The installation is being carried out by Tendring Telecoms and Security Systems, and its Operations Director, Danny Botterell, believes the cameras will make Dovercourt a safer and more attractive place to live and work.

Danny said: “There will be two high-definition cameras which can be moved about to places in the town centre where they are most needed.

“The cameras will be installed on lampposts and will be linked to the main CCTV centre in Clacton where the images will be monitored live as well as being able to be downloaded as evidence for the police. The cameras will act as a deterrent against people who might be tempted to commit antisocial behaviour and will have the added benefit of providing useful evidence.”

The cameras are part of a major initiative to rejuvenate Dovercourt. A total of £737,000 has been ring fenced to improve the town centre under the Government’s High Street Accelerator programme. Money will also go towards improving town centre shop fronts and creating a new website.
